Network Awards
There are three top awards for the Scout Network Section For each of the top awards there are common elements which must be completed to increasing levels of demand. The first four sections are: - Skill – Show lasting progress in a new or existing Skill over a period of time.
- Physical Activity – complete an agreed programme of taking part and achievement.
- Service – provide service to an individual or community over a sustained period. This should include briefing and training, and can include working with another section.
- Expedition – Complete an expedition of 2/3/4 days in rural / open country.
Membership period – be a member of Explorers/Network for 6/12/18 months. Spend 6/12/18 nights away as a member of the Scout Network, 4/8/12 of which must be camping. Complete 2 activities form the International, Environment, Values list. For the Queen’s Scout Award there is an additional requirement of a 5 day / 4 night residential project and a presentation. The project should be in an unfamiliar environment with unknown people. Award requirements and resources! The are the Scout Network Membership Pack, and the ‘Network Essentials, the complete guide to starting and running a successful Scout Network’ detail these awards. Each is priced at £5 although Northern Ireland Scout counties have each been supplied with two copies of each for free (contact your ACC(Network) or county commissioner to see them). Further copies are available from the scout information centre (http://www.sbuk.org.uk/info.centre/catalog.php?cat=226 ) phone: 0845 300 1818 (Local Rate). The most important part of the membership pack is probably the Award record forms and these can be photocopied as required. The ‘Network Essentials’ book is full of useful information and each Network should have one.
