How to become a Network member.

To be a member of the Scout Network section you must have ‘opted-in’ to a Scout Network - you are no longer automatically a member. You must be a member of the Scout Network if you are over 18 and working towards a Scouting Award. You could also be:

  • a Leader with another Section
  • a Helper of Skills Instructor
  • a member of the Scout Fellowship
  • a member in another capacity

Structure of the Scout Network

The Scout Network is a County Provision. However under recent changes there is also the possibility for Scout Districts to host Networks. The various types of Scout Network that now operate are:
1. A County Scout Network.
2. A District Scout Network
3. A Special Interest Scout Network
All Scout Networks are now supported by a Scout Network Leader. As well as this, each Scout Network will also elect a Scout Network Chair. This person will act as a co-ordinator. The Scout Network chair is a Member of the Scout Network.
Note: The definition of a Scout Network Member has recently changed. 18 to 25 year olds must ‘opt-in’ to the Scout Network. This will have implications for anyone who is completing their Queen’s Scout Award, Chief Scout’s Diamond Award or the Explorer Belt, as anyone over 18 must be a Member of their Scout Network to complete a Scouting Award.

Joining an existing Network

To become a member of Network in Northern Ireland first contact your County ACC for Network or County Comissioner and ask for details of Networks in your county. Alternatively contact the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Network, David Branagh, for details of a Network near you. Also you can fill in the 'Join Us' form at www.scoutsni.com and someone will contact you.

It may be that there is no Network in your county / close to you in which case you will have the option of starting one up (with support of your ACC Network and County Commissioner), or joining one of the other Network sections in Northern Ireland on the understanding that you may not be able to participate in all meetings due to travel restricitions.
