Happy New Year! 2007 was a great celebration year and I’m sure we will all have many good memories of the events and activities. 2008 is the start of the next 100 years of Scouting. Let’s make sure we carry the excitement of the centenary year into the future. Odyssey Event Over 750 Cubs and Leaders from across the province descended on the Odyssey for a fun day out on 10th November. The afternoon was spent exploring the “hands on” science displays in W5 and enjoying the special Science Magic show laid on for the Cubs. After W5 we moved into the Odyssey Arena for some food and settled down to watch the Ice Hockey. It was a lively match with plenty of cheering from the Cubs, rounded off with a win for the Belfast Giants over the Sheffield Steelers. Our thanks to all who helped out in planning and on the day, with special thanks to Steve Hoskins. Football The winners of the NI Cub Shield, 1st Lisnaskea, had a surprise treat in November when they were invited to attend a training session for the Northern Ireland Team in advance of their match with Denmark. The seven Cubs got to see the team training and working on their skills. Afterwards they got the chance to meet some of the players and get a few autographs. I’m told the highlight was when they were photographed with 2008 – First NI Cub Event of the New Century! We are looking at a Cub Day on 24th May, 2008, as our first event of this Scouting century. The proposed venue is the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. Full details with application form will be in the March issue, but put the date in your diary now!
