Lisnaskea Cubs travel to Antrim for finals of Northern Ireland Football Tournament
In June of this year 7 Cubs from 1st Lisnaskea Cub Pack travelled to Antrim for the Finals of the Northern Ireland football tournament. Each having qualified from their own county, 25 teams from across the Province came together for a day of competition and fun. On one of the hottest days of the past summer, the team initially topped their group of 6 teams, to go into a round robin with the other 5 best sides. After 5 further nerve wracking games, the Lisnaskea boys emerged in first place. In November, after much work between the Scout Association and the IFA the team received a special treat. They were invited to attend a training session being held for the Northern Ireland football team. On a very wet Wednesday the boys and 2 parents headed back up the road to Antrim. A day off school was just an added bonus ! The Cubs got to see the team training and working on their skills, hopefully picking up a few tips for next year's football tournament. As the session finished they were allowed to meet their heroes, and get some autographs and photos with players like Keith Gillespie and Johnny Evans. Finally though, they got the ultimate highlight as they were presented with their trophy by David Healy. They were so impressed that some of them even stopped talking for a minute. So 7 delighted Cubs and two happy Leaders set off home for Fermanagh, with memories to last them a lifetime.
